National Cancer Survivor’s Month:
Felicia Corbray’s story
June is National Cancer Survivor Month, and Eye on Grace is celebrating the strength, resilience, and courage of all our ocular melanoma (OM) warriors. Whether you've been living with a diagnosis for one day or one decade, you are a survivor.
Eye on Grace travel grant recipient Felicia Corbray has a particularly unique story. Her father lost his battle with ocular melanoma at age 70. In 2017, just eight months after giving birth to twins, Felicia received the same devastating diagnosis.
Today, Felicia views survivorship as a powerful reminder that cancer does not define a person's future.
"Being a survivor means cancer isn't the end," she says. "You are not a statistic, and you can do hard things. I've learned not to stress the small stuff. I appreciate all that life has to offer, even the difficult moments. I've learned not to take anything for granted. We are so blessed to wake up each day."
In 2019, Felicia's cancer metastasized to her liver. She underwent a partial liver resection, but the cancer returned just six months later. Today, she travels to Philadelphia for treatment with the same medical team that cared for her father.
Through every challenge, her children remain her greatest source of strength.
"My kids are my reason to fight," she says. "They give me the power to keep going."
Eye on Grace has been honored to support Felicia along her treatment journey through travel assistance grants.
"Traveling for treatment is so stressful, and having to worry about the cost is sometimes just too much to handle," Felicia says. "The foundation has relieved that stress and allowed me to get the treatment I need. Without Eye on Grace, I don't think I could make it all work."
When asked what she would say to someone newly diagnosed with ocular melanoma, her answer is simple:
"Breathe and give yourself grace. Cancer is not the end."
This National Cancer Survivor Month, we celebrate Felicia and every survivor who continues to face each day with courage, hope, and determination.
